o Make sure you have a cheat day – It is critical to you when creating a healthy eating habit that you incorporate a cheat day into your weekly routine. You must be realistic and by having 1 day to eat your favourite foods it will be easier to stay on track during the week.
o Eat lots of veg, salad, fruit – Like water these foods are absolutely critical to good health and subsequently results. These food sources contain vitamins and minerals which are key to energy, a strong immune system, healthy hair skin and nails, disease prevention, training performance and recovery and also effect the quality of your sleep.

PostHeaderIcon Nutrition For Seniors

It seems each time you switch on the TV or look in a magazine you see a story about the problem of worldwide obesity. People are getting more unhealthily overweight every day to the point of it becoming life threatening. In the past, there have always been a small number of people who ate unhealthy foods, but now that number is quickly growing. We need to carefully consider how our unhealthy diet affects us.

Eating the wrong types of food can cause us to feel lethargic and sluggish. We’re getting the wrong kinds of nutrients from all this junk food we consume. It’s important to consider the quality of the food we eat, especially if you are a senior. As we age, our metabolism slows down quite a bit. We can’t burn the calories at the same rate as when we were kids. This is what makes older people put on weight more easily and makes it harder to take off too. Gaining weight may affect seniors in a negative way, more so than younger people. Being overweight can put a lot of stress on your joints and can accelerate the problems of osteoporosis and arthritis. It can also contribute to other illnesses and muscle disorders. Being overweight can bring on diabetes, which is very common to seniors.

Everyone should treat themselves to something they really like to eat, now and then, but one shouldn’t over do it. It’s important to maintain a balanced diet. A good diet for seniors could consist of: Up to ten servings of fresh fruits and vegetables. Up to ten servings of complex carbohydrates like pasta, bread, rice and cereals. Three servings of calcium containing products, such as cheese, yogurt and milk (low fat is best). Two servings of fish, poultry or meat for protein. A large helping of fiber, such as fruit, vegetables and cereals. This diet will not only provide good health, but will also fulfill all of your nutritional needs. All of us, especially seniors should avoid salt and saturated fats. Salt is really bad for high blood pressure. If you do use salt, just use a tiny amount. Most foods naturally contain some salt, so we really don’t need to add any. Try not to use too much salt while baking and preparing food. Don’t keep the salt shaker on the table while eating either. This will help break you of the habit of salting your food. Besides laying off the salt, stay far away from saturated fat. The body just isn’t meant to handle it. Saturated fat is hard for your body to break down. It just sits around, clogging your arteries.

This is one of the main causes of obesity, cancer and gallbladder disease in our society today. Just as a well balanced diet can improve you health, a bad diet can cause it to deteriorate. This is especially dangerous for seniors. Seniors usually aren’t as active as young people and have a harder time working off the extra calories. If you can keep your weight down, you’ll improve your mobility and be able to burn more calories. It’s important for seniors to enjoy life. If you eat a sensible diet and maintain a proper weight, you’ll be around to enjoy your life a lot longer. You only get one chance at life. Make the most of it. Improve you diet today and you’ll be rewarded with good health and long life.

After 7 years traveling and studying various communities, there were four places which stood out from the rest. These were located on a small island off the coast of Japan, a bizarre religious town in the States, a non descriptive village in Costa Rica and the island of Sardinia.

Nutrition was at the center of the longevity argument for two of these communities, Nicoya in Costa Rica and Sardinia.

The Nicoyens lifespan it was reported was attributed to their water, some of the hardest in the world as it’s teaming with minerals, most notably calcium.

Calcium is proved to relax your arteries, build your bone strength and it has a huge impact on how you function and age doctors argue.

Similarly, the people of Sardinia also consumed large quantities of calcium found in their staple diet of goats milk and Pecorino cheese.

Sardinia also holds the world record for the largest male centenarian population and the hidden secret scientists unearthed was whats known as the Resveratrol effect.

Found in the grape skin Resv is a fungi which grows naturally to help protect the grape against harmful bacteria, but if consumed, scientists state – acts an artery scrubber .The people of Sardinia consume three times as much Resv as the rest of us which they argue attributes to their longevity.

Resveratrol is fortunately now sold in the bottle, and each bottle contains 60 capsules which is the equivalent to roughly 1000 bottles of Sardinian red wine so the concentration is obviously high!

PostHeaderIcon Daily Nutrition For Kids

As a parent it is important for you to make sure you meet the standards of daily nutrition for kids. Your children need a certain intake of certain types of food. In order to make sure you’re raising a healthy and well balanced family, the requirements of daily nutrition for kids must be met!

If your child is very young, feed them fruit and vegetables so that they are used to these foods. You can go with starchy vegetables like potatoes and squash to provide some carbohydrates through this food group. While whole grains are good and recommended, very young children can become very full when eating whole grains and they may not want to eat anything else. This means they will be missing out on protein and dairy groups. While your child is still very young, you can serve them refined grain products.

Just stick to lean meats. In terms of dairy products, you can keep them on full cream milk till about the age of three then switch them to 2% or skim. This assures you that daily nutrition is being met for your kids. Follow your food pyramid and chart to make sure you’re on track.

For older children, start by making sure they get a good amount of fruit and vegetables each day. Since these are the two food groups that children seldom look for, provide it for them. Make fruit a part of their breakfasts, and vegetables as part of a snack or packed lunch. Children naturally go for grains and protein groups, so make up for what they will naturally lack. If your children feel they’re too old to be drinking milk, substitute this with yogurt, pudding, cheese, or calcium fortified fruit juice.

When eating proteins, try to serve a lot of fish and beans. The omega 3 in fish is a good fat and good cholesterol. Omega 3 is also very good for your skin, and this can be a perk for teens dealing with acne. Poultry is also a healthier choice than beef and pork. When serving beef and pork, go for the leaner cuts to lessen your children’s fat intake.

Parents should trust the food pyramid and see that it provides for good, healthy, well balanced meals and snacks in proper servings. While this is a great guide for daily nutrition for kids, parents also have to keep in mind not to force their children to eat. Try making sure your kids get the right servings of the right food groups, but if they simply are not hungry, don’t force the issue, especially if they’ve been eating nutritious food all day. Children have a natural clock that tells them when they’ve had too much to eat.

Adults have it too, but often tend to ignore it. Don’t force your children to eat when they’re not hungry, this could lead to an overeating habit in the future. Also make sure that they chew their food well and eat slowly, this also prevents overeating.

Daily nutrition for kids is something that is easily met if you just pay a little more attention to what you serve. Before you know it, you’ll be able to serve good and nutritious food for your kids at all times!
