PostHeaderIcon Ski Fitness Training Methods That Give You Samson-Like Strength And Endurance To Ski For Longer

How strong are you? Samson-like? If not, that’s okay. Chances are, unless you move furniture for a living or are a professional wrestler, you don’t need Samson-like strength in your everyday life.

However, when you’re on the ski slopes you need strength and endurance in order to stay on those slopes for any length of time. The stronger you are, the longer you can stay on your skis and the more control you have as well. This means being able to hit those bigger and scarier slopes as well!

You can build your strength and your endurance at the same time, if you follow a few simple methods of doing so. These exercises will help you to build some neglected muscles in the legs and your overall endurance as well.

The Sideways Scoot

One great exercise that is used by athletes, especially football players, to build strength and endurance is a sideways scoot. Stand with your feet a bit more than shoulder-width apart and squat slightly so that your knees are just above a ninety-degree angle, your upper body bent forward slightly.

In this position, quickly move sideways like a crab. You don’t pick your feet up too far from the floor and your legs should stay in pretty much the same position. This exercise works the inner leg muscles as they are tensed and flexed in order to move you back and forth. It might be a bit tricky to master this movement at first, but once you practice it you’ll feel the burn – and the muscles being built as well.

The Knee Slap

Another great exercise that increases leg strength and overall endurance is a knee slap. To perform this exercise, stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, your hands cupped and pointed down at about chest level. As quick as possible, pull one knee up almost to your chest and slap it against your hands, then switch knees. This movement is like a march but a bit more controlled; you want to move both legs up and down quickly so that you feel yourself getting out of breath and increasing your heart rate at the same time.

The deeper you bend your knees the more muscles you work. Try to perform this movement as quickly as possible, as this will also build your aerobic strength. Don’t jump as you go back and forth but simply move your legs up and down to slap the knee against the palm.

These simple movements increase muscle tone and strength as well as your overall endurance. You may even feel the burn of the muscles you’ve been neglecting the day after you perform these exercises. Make sure to do them quickly enough so that you are working your heart and your lungs as well as the muscles of your legs, and doing so will mean giving you the strength and endurance you need to hit the slopes!

PostHeaderIcon The cultural reaction to hair loss

I suppose if you go back to the days when men rose in the mornings and went out into the jungle or on to the plains to hunt for food, losing hair was a real problem. Just imagine the bright sun shining off the bald head. This beacon of light would frighten the game animals away faster than you could move downwind. It would be worse than dropping your spear or forgetting to bring your cudgel along, where the other members of the hunt could cover for you. But when your presence drives the potential food away. Now that’s a real problem. So they drive you out of the cave – no freeloaders allowed. You do your best to join the women in the gathering part of the survival exercise. Berries and roots are not disturbed by your lack of hair. In the end, you probably starve to death and this serves as a terrible warning to the other members of the tribe. Some of the men experiment with animal skins, hoping to invent baseball caps. Others try rubbing earth or other substances on to their scalps. At the very least, it all cuts down the glare factor.

It’s no different today. Were it not for the development of other skills which can be sold in exchange for food, all balding men would starve. This just leaves the other reaction. Women often see balding men as undesirable for breeding purposes. Who wants to have children with someone who may pass on the balding gene? It’s much kinder to let natural selection end these poor creatures and leave the human race stronger and more hairy as a result.

So men who see the first signs of premature male pattern balding slowly emerge must take action to preserve their credibility for breeding purposes. Other problems can be cured. Dental work can correct less than perfect teeth. Cosmetic surgery can remove excess fat and smooth away early wrinkles that might betray age. Style gurus can advise on clothes to wear. This just leaves the hair. Fortunately, the researchers had one of those lucky accidents. There’s this wonderful myth that scientists set out with a hypothesis, devise experiments and prove themselves brilliant. Ironically, there’s just as much discovered when experiments go hopelessly wrong. Bright-eyed and not defeated, they try to find the reason for their humiliation.

So it was with those scientists trying to find a way of treating prostate cancer. Imagine their surprise when the drug trials suddenly produced more hair on the heads of many participating men. After recovering from their Simpson “doh” moment, they realized they might have a money-spinner on their hands. Several trials later, the FDA was convinced and a license was issued. Propecia could be released on to world markets as the only drug to have been fully tested and approved by government regulators. It’s a great marketing strategy when you can tell the truth about your product. Too often in the past, marketers had to lie and cheat their customers, moving on to the next town quickly before the scam was discovered. This time, they really could say Propecia stops hair loss and hold their own heads up proudly.

PostHeaderIcon Leading Horse For Fitness Training by the Kikkuli Method

A 3000 year old fitness program for horses offers modern trainers the opportunity to improve horses’ fitness while keeping them sound and happy.

The program was named after its creator, the Mitannian Master Horse Trainer Kikkuli, whose horse conditioning techniques helped establish a military

empire in around 1345 BC. By following the instructions laid down in the Kikkuli Text, you will be able to produce a superb equine athlete without the use of drugs or expensive feed additives.

Performance horses and racehorses as a whole continue to be trained by tired old conventional methods. Race times for horses have barely improved in the last few decades (unlike the great improvement in times for human athletes) and lameness disqualifies potentially outstanding endurance horses and eventers at the beginning of their careers. Kikkuli’s Method addressed all these problems.

Kikkuli used Interval training based on several principles. Once of these techniques was that whatever he intended to do under saddle, he did first by leading the horse (not in the same day – this is as a principle). That means that if the horse is to be trotted under saddle, the horse should be led at the trot (from a vehicle or other horse) for a set period of time (that is, over days or weeks) prior to this. If the horse is to be cantered under saddle, the horse should be led at the canter (from a vehicle or other horse) for a set period of time (that is, over days or weeks) prior to this (and so on). Kikkuli even led horses at the gallop. This way the horse’s system will adjust to the work without the stress of weight and without the psychological stress of dealing with a rider. By following this Kikkuli Principle there will be no weight-bearing stress on the horse in the initial training.

If leading more than one horse, make sure you get the order right. Some horses like to lead and some horses like to follow. The horses led from the front of vehicle, from the front doors, will need to move out wider to allow for the vehicle to turn around corners and bends. Horses that like to kick other horses will obviously need to be led from the back of the vehicle. When leading five horses, place a horse which likes to kick, in the middle of two horses behind the back of the vehicle. This is the place which offers the least movement. I always lead stallions from the driver’s window so they are in easy reach. Some horses can became competitive with the vehicle, and at times will try to race it or bite it. Do not worry about this, this will cease, or at least only happen from time to time, when the horse becomes more used to the leading.

PostHeaderIcon Successful Allergy Treatment

Allergy is an abnormal, acquired sensitivity to a given substance, including pollen, drugs, or numerous environmental triggers. People who have allergies often are sensitive to more than one thing. Allergic rhinitis (nasal allergies) affects about 35 million Americans, 6 million of whom are children. The number of cases of asthma has doubled over the last 20 years. It is exaggerated because these foreign substances are usually seen by the body as harmless and no response occurs in non- allergic people. Allergic people’s bodies recognize the foreign substance and one part of the immune system is turned on. In the United States, an allergist-immunologist is a physician specially trained to manage and treat asthma and the other allergic diseases. Proteins found in the skin, saliva, and urine of furry pets such as cats and dogs are allergens. It can also be found in rotting logs, hay, mulches, commercial peat moss, compost piles and leaf litter. Allergies can cause a runny nose, sneezing, itching, rashes, swelling or asthma. Allergies that occur in the spring are often due to tree pollen. Allergies that occur in the summer are often due to grass and weed pollen.

Allergies that occur in the fall are often due to ragweed. Many allergens, including dust mites, are in dust. Dust mites are tiny living creatures found in bedding, mattresses, carpeting and upholstered furniture. Up to 30% of the population suffers from allergic rhinitis, and this number seems to be growing. The majority of these people are treated by their primary care physician for their allergies. There are two components involved in a true allergic reaction. The first is the production of immunoglobulin E (IgE), an antibody that circulates in the blood attacking things such as germs. The second is the mast cell, a type of cell that is found in the body at places where allergic reactions occur, including the nose, throat, lungs and skin. There have been enormous improvements in mainstream medical treatments developed by allergists. Antihistamines help reduce the sneezing, runny nose and itchiness of allergies. Cromolyn sodium is a nasal spray that helps prevent the body’s reaction to allergens. Environmental endotoxin showed a strong protection against hay fever and allergy.

Endotoxin exposure reduces peripheral blood leukocytes release of inflammatory cytokines after lipopolysaccharide, including cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor alpha, interferon-gamma, interleukin-10, and interleukin-12. Shower and wash your hair every day. Pollen from the air can collect on your clothes, skin, and hair. Many families are giving their children safe nutritional supplements, such as Vitamin B6 with magnesium and Di-methyl-glycine (DMG). Many medications used to treat various medical problems are derived from plants and herbs, including theophylline. Various herbal supplements have been used in the treatment of allergies and asthma, some showing benefit. Dry your sheets and clothing in a dryer rather than hanging them outdoors where they can collect pollen and spores. Wash your hands after having contact with your pet. Keep pets out of the bedroom or other rooms where you spend a great deal of time. Avoid using carpeting in your home since allergens will collect there.

PostHeaderIcon The Problem of Aging

In the early 20th century, average life expectancy was 35 years. Today the world average is 67. Decreases in childhood mortality and improved healthcare means more people are living longer than ever before. But along with increased life expectancy come increased health issues.

Brain function starts to decrease after middle age. Peotone Illinois healthcare might have to deal with thousands of cases of dementia where their patients suffer from decreased cognitive function. Alzheimer’s disease is a form of dementia most commonly associated with aging. An Alzheimer’s patient can suffer from memory loss, confusion, and mood swings. In the worst cases, the patient is completely disconnected from what is going on around him. There is no cure for Alzheimer’s, but medication can lessen some of its effects. These patients will eventually be unable to take care of themselves and will need full-time care giving. So far, there has been no definitive way to avoid dementia. However, studies have shown that people who engage in intellectual activities such as puzzle solving and reading have reduced risks. Exercise and social interaction might also help reduce the incidence of the disease.

Frailty syndrome is another age related health problem. Braidwood healthcare physicians will tell you that we tend to lose muscle and bone mass as we age. Muscle tissue starts to shrink and be replaced by fat. This can cause lack of coordination and increased frailty that can prevent a person from taking care of himself. Along with loss of muscle can come loss of bone density. Osteoporosis can affect men, but it mostly occurs in women after menopause. Hormone factors play a large role in the body’s ability to rebuild bones as strong as they once were. Weaker bones mean older people are more likely to suffer broken bones from minor falls. There are some medications that can help deal with the problems of bone and muscle loss, but the best way to prevent it is to exercise regularly throughout your life.

Health issues associated with aging mean there is an increased need for specialized care of the elderly. There are many short and long term options out there, and Braidwood Illinois healthcare workers can help find the right solution to a patient’s needs. An elderly patient might need full-time or short term healthcare. Short term care facilities specialize in helping a patient deal with a specific problem. A stroke victim might need help regaining the ability to speak and move. Cardiac rehab programs help people recover from heart surgery, and physical therapy helps patients recover from joint replacement. Retirement and nursing homes can provide long term care for the aged. Some supply apartment-style living for the healthier residents while having full-care facilities for those residents who can no longer take care of themselves. Hospice care is a wonderful option for terminal patients who cannot be cured and want their last days to be as comfortable as possible.

PostHeaderIcon More about health exchanges

A new survey in Massachusetts finds 75% of respondents in favor of continuing their universal health care system with two-thirds positively approving it. More kudos to Mitt Romney! This is not what the GOP wants to hear, of course. The leading politicians want both Romneycare and Obamacare repealed. In the meantime, most states have been taking in $2.8 billion in federal funding to expand Medicaid, improve preventative treatments, and design health exchanges where people will be able to buy their new plans. In this context, a report from the National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) makes very interesting reading.

NASCIO argues it will be better for states to design their own exchanges for both individuals and small businesses with less than 100 employees (SHOP). The system must allow consumers to compare the prices of all the available plans based on benefits, services, premium rates and a “quality” rating. The exchange must allow transparent competition and avoid the current problem of bad value-for-money where high administrative costs are deducted before picking up the patients’ bills. This will be complicated to create and so NASCIO suggests states pool their efforts to create a standard package all contributing states can adopt. If every state is going to try creating the same code, some will succeed in the time available, but many will fail and budgets will be wasted.

As models we already have Massachusetts Connector and Utah’s Exchange. Building on their experience would save time and money. It would also produce a better quality result which is to be administered by the state or a non-profit entity – this includes the operation of a toll-free hotline and an online calculator to show how much a plan will cost taking account of any tax credits and cost-sharing reductions. All citizens must be able to discover whether they are eligible for help under Medicaid, CHIP, and so on. This can only happen if the exchange system can work with the Internal Revenue Service, Social Security Administration, and so on. The federal government expects every state to give their citizens a first-class experience. The accounts for running the exchanges must be audited and published, showing the exchanges are self-supporting and good value-for-money. Given the long list of features to be included in this specification, the sooner state start the planning, the better. If they do not make good progress, the federal government will impose its own exchange.

Even if we only look at one feature – that all the health plans must be presented in standardized format – the problems are immense. All the insurance companies must cooperate and supply the information about their plans in the same format. This will require the insurers to redesign their IT systems to interface with the new exchanges so that details of new plans can be available through the exchanges without separate uploading. The work expected of all interested parties is immense. So is it all going to be worth it? The experience in Massachusetts suggests the answer is “yes”. Individual health insurance through the new exchange has proved popular. More importantly, even though the premium rates have been rising, local citizens accept this is not the fault of their universal health insurance law. Costs are rising everywhere.
