PostHeaderIcon Pain Management

There comes a point when the doctors have done everything reasonably possible to treat the underlying cause of the pain, but the pain continues. It’s at this point that the pain itself becomes a problem to be treated in its own right. You may well have started with a traumatic physical injury but, when the surgeon is done, you are left with the need to control the continuing pain. The difficulty in most hospitals is the department that originally began the treatment, keeps control over you even though it may have no experience in treating pain in its own right. In most cases, this is defensive medicine. Fearing another doctor might find fault with the original treatment, the first in time hold on to you and routinely prescribe painkillers of increasing strength. This is unfortunate but understandable.

One of the growth industries in the US is litigation. Attorneys specializing in tort make their names by taking on big-named corporations and well-known professionals, claiming to have evidence of professional negligence or medical malpractice. In many cases, the insurance companies settle rather than have their insured dragged endlessly through the courts. It can also save a small fortune in legal defense costs. The result is a general agreement among doctors not to find fault with each others’ work and, wherever possible, hiding evidence to prevent the claims proceeding. Although it may offer short-term protection to the incompetent, this strategy works against your interests as a patient. If you are suffering continuing pain, you should be offered:

  • a review of the treatment to date by an independent expert – if there have been mistakes, it’s in your interests to have these corrected. You may never make a proper recovery without effective treatment of the underlying cause.
  • an explanation of all the different treatment options once the independent review is completed. This may be surgery or noninvasive procedures, different drugs, physical therapy or counseling.
  • a description of the alternative medical treatments like acupuncture. These are treatments for which there is no convincing medical research evidence of effectiveness but, if for nothing other than the placebo effect, it can be worth trying.

The aim should always be to make the best medical decisions. This means starting with no preconceptions, being honest enough to admit if there have been mistakes, and open-minded enough to accept new therapies as of possible assistance. Unfortunately, with tort attorneys standing in the wings to grab evidence of errors, this type of independent inquiry is never going to take place. It will require major changes in the law to give immunity to those offering the initial treatments. This will encourage them to cooperate in the investigation. In the long-term, it also identifies those doctors needing further training. It’s better to re-educate failing doctors than to risk more damaged patients in the future. While we wait for all this to happen, it’s fortunate we have Ultram to rely on. This is the world’s best painkiller. So take this and watch the world argue and debate how things can change to give you the best treatment. In reality, this is painful to think about. Where’s the Ultram?

PostHeaderIcon A drug that helps high altitude workers

Recently a study conducted on high altitude athletes and soldiers who are forced to serve in mountain areas (such as Afghanistan) has shown incredible results. As it turns out, a drug that was initially developed for overcoming erectile dysfunction can serve as an enhancer for situations when endurance is needed at higher altitude. And this drug is the one you have definitely heard about – Viagra.

The research conducted in the Stanford University and the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System involved study participants who were asked to ride bicycle simulators with special breathing masks that mimicked the low-oxygen air found at higher altitudes. The test group who were given a standard dose of Viagra has shown an average improvement in endurance and overall physical activity of 39%. It’s evident that in crucial situations when physical abilities are required in complicated conditions like those of high altitudes having such a stimulant is very beneficial. After the report was published a group of military researchers has stated that they will initiate their own studies on the performance of soldiers in high altitude situations with the use of Viagra stimulation.

A large part of those who are using Viagra on a regular basis these days know that the drug was initially developed and tested as a treatment for hypertension and angina. But after the initial clinical studies have shown amazing results in men who were suffering from erectile dysfunction, Pfizer has redirected the drug and received an approval from the FDA for it being used as a treatment for ED. The anti-hypertension didn’t go away since the drug is based in the same active element. And Pfizer has recently introduced a new drug to the market, labeled Revatio, which uses the same active element and is marketed for the treatment of hypertension.

Hypertension is one of the main effects of physical activity in low-oxygen environments such as high altitudes. Because of the low oxygen content in the air, the blood vessels in the lung shrink forcing the heart to work harder in order to maintain proper blood circulation. That’s why having an effective drug for hypertension in high altitude situations can significantly improve the overall condition and physical abilities of people working in such an environment.

The study in question involved professional cyclists who were put in a situation of low oxygen air. It simulated an altitude of 12,700 feet, and the test subjects had to ride a 6-kilometer track against time. The results were impressive for those who had a good response to Viagra in the first place. This group of athletes had an average time of nearly 11 minutes against 15 minutes when taking placebo. However, a certain group of athletes didn’t have any response to Viagra and their results were the same in case of placebo and Viagra use. The actual dosage didn’t have any significance, since both 50 mg and 100 mg dosage provided the same effects in physical performance.

So if you need something to boost your physical abilities in the environment of high altitudes, then taking a pack of diamond-shaped pills might be a good idea even if you don’t have any problems with erection in normal circumstances.

PostHeaderIcon Dysfunctional Australia

It’s almost impossible to run a computer without also picking up a small daily mountain of spam for erectile dysfunction drugs. Those e-mails just keep on coming. You wonder how they can ever make money for those responsible. Yet, apparently, they are very profitable. It needs replies from less than one percent of people to cover costs and show a good profit. The reason? Most of this spam is sent out using a zombie army of PCs. These bots infect machines and, without the owners being aware, send out this torrent of rubbish. Thus, the cost to the spammers is effectively zero. The PC owners pick up the bill for connection time and bandwidth. Anyone foolish enough to buy is almost pure profit. Which brings us to Australia.

For some time, it’s been impossible to go anywhere in Australian cities without seeing billboards advertising, “Longer lasting sex”. To enjoy this special offer, all you had to do was sign up with a company called Advanced Medical Institute (AMI). Records now presented to the court dealing with this company’s administration show that the owners, Jacov “Jack” Vaisman and Brian Lonergan, spent $34 million on advertising between January 2008 and June 2009. Advertising the old-fashioned way in Australia is not cheap. But it’s not simply the cost of all the ads that has sunk the company. For all the claims, the company had little or no interest in promoting the health of those who parted with their money. Most of the treatments were either ineffective or had dangerous side effects. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission was just beginning a prosecution for unconscionable conduct – that’s misselling and civil fraud in our racketeering sense of the word. AMI routinely gouged thousands of dollars from their patients with non-qualified medical staff giving advice and sales staff hitting credit cards for unauthorized payments. When whistleblowers tried to bring all this to the public’s attention, AIM began a year-long legal campaign to gag the whistleblowers and the newspaper that was about to publish the story. By coincidence, the British subsidiary was declared bankrupt early in 2010 owning several million.

This demonstrates the extent of the market for erectile dysfunction treatments and the vast number of men apparently willing to part with their dollars for that treatment. What makes this story all the more surprising is that a business could have grown so big so quickly. With the presence of three highly effective drugs, you would think there would be no place for a cowboy outfit like AMI. Yet this company could maintain an advertising budget of $34 million over 18 months without difficulty. The only reason it failed was the extent of their fraud became too public to hide. With Cialis offering both a conventional 36-hour pill as needed and a once-daily version, it’s hard to understand where all the business came from. Cialis is effective in the vast majority of cases and, even when not, Australia has a socialized medical service which offers free or subsidized care for erectile dysfunction. There was no need for these men to pay exorbitant fees for treatments that did not work.

PostHeaderIcon The Inside Scoop on Gastrointestinal Inflammation

What is it?

Inflammation is a natural response from our bodies in an attempt to protect or heal the body. It causes the chemistry of the inflamed area to change, altering the tissues and the electromagnetic energy in that area as well.

Inflammation from the perspective of Chinese Medicine is looked at as a heat process; very active and hot. If there is long-term inflammation the body shuts down somewhat, and isolates the damage so that it doesn’t spread. This can lead to “coldness” or deficiency. So depending on how long the inflammation has been present the symptoms and treatments will differ; ranging from symptoms of heat to deficient or cold.

What causes it? There are many things that can cause GI Inflammation. A common culprit is not enough HCL in stomach. HCL is what kills the hazardous bacteria on foods and helps break down food. Other causes of GI inflammation include infection, overgrowth of bacteria, parasites, food sensitivities, stress, poor lifestyle and eating habits, and heavy metals/toxins.

General signs of inflammation can include:
o Irregular bowel movements.
o Gas
o Bloating
o Burping
o Stomach or intestinal pain
o Constipation and/or lose stool.
o Pain when pushing on the belly

Why is it important to know about GI Inflammation? It’s pretty much impossible to be healthy and vital (over time) if digestion isn’t working.

In Chinese Medicine the digestive system is said to be ruled by three main functions/elements and organs of the body. The Earth element includes the stomach and the spleen/pancreas. Here the food is warmed and melted down (stomach) then “essence” is transformed and distributed (spleen/pancreas). The Fire element includes the Small Intestine, which is where our nutrients are absorbed, and is said to link with the Heart or Spirit. The Small Intestine literally feeds the Heart/Spirit with nutrients and information from the outside world. Lastly is the Metal element, which involves the Large Intestine (LI). The LI has to do with taking in and letting go. In our culture there is a serious underestimation of the importance of letting go of the crap! Which leads us to our next section…..

Poop talk!
What is healthy poop? Many people don’t know they have signs of GI inflammation because they assume that what they experience in terms of digestion is normal. This is particularly true when it comes to poop, because not only are we prone to assume we’re “normal,” but this is a topic that most many people avoid bringing up. Poop gives very important information about the state of the body.

So, what’s normal anyways? Having a bowel movement 1-3 times a day, with a brown, not too dark or chalky white, color. Be aware that some foods can temporarily alter the color. Bowel movements should move easily without effort and not a lot of gas. They should be formed and tube-shaped, not skinny, in round balls and not overly stinky or sticky.

What causes GI Inflammation:
Foods your body can’t handle

Eating food without enough digestive enzymes or HCL to help break it down
o Infection
o Excess metals/toxins/chemicals built up in the body
o Emotions

What do we do about it?
o Partnering with a well-trained practitioner can help you get to the underlying problem quickly and safely.
o Meditative, prayer and exercise can help you to manage everyday stressors and emotions, proving to benefit many digestive imbalances.
o Know the do’s and don’ts of eating: Do… Eat in a calm environment, thoroughly chewing your food and pay attention to how your body is responding to what you’re feeding it. Don’t worry, stress, work, or consume too much liquid while eating. The digestive fluids need to be concentrated so it is a good practice to not drink with meals, but rather before and after.
o Simplify your meals. Pay attention to the foods that cause you pain and then take responsibility for that information.

Some foods that promote healthy GI functioning are alkaline foods such as fruits, veggies, sea veggies, millet, amaranth, quinoa and olive oil. These foods should constitute between 70-80% of your meals. Fiber, foods that have pre-biotics (such as chicory), and foods that have probiotics (such as yogurt and home-made cultured veggies) all support GI health.

Foods that promote GI inflammation include animal products, refined foods, sugars, wheat and other grains not mentioned above, drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, some fats, coffee and chocolate.

PostHeaderIcon Launching An Adult Day Health Care Center In Chicago

Chicago is acknowledged as the cultural, industrial, financial, and economic capital of the Midwest. It has a population that exceeds 2,873,790, of which 8.7% were single senior citizens above 65 who lived alone. With two-income families on the rise, care and supervision of a loved senior has become an increasing concern. Adult care centers are thus gaining popularity, as not only are their aged loved ones under supervision, they also have the chance to mingle with their peers.

Tips for Starting an Adult Day Care Center:
Adult day health care centers are for senior citizens who need skilled nursing and rehabilitative therapy services in addition to providing excellent personal care services. These registered nurses and rehabilitative therapists always act under the supervision of the senior citizen’s physician.

It can be a great idea to start an adult day health care center, but first be realistic and conduct a detailed analysis of the demographics of your area to find out if there are any senior citizens who can afford a day care service. You could visit your competitors and find out the range of services they offer and the prices to give you an idea of how to price your services and offer a little extra in the beginning to capture the market. Adult day health care services usually charge $10 to $15 per hour.

Lease an appropriate place with easy access to health care facilities, having proximity to a health care practitioner in case of an emergency. It has to be conveniently located with easy accessibility and meet all the required state regulatory factors.

Buy the necessary furniture and other equipment and materials that are necessary and decorate the interior in such a way that the senior citizens will not have much trouble in moving around. Keep the interior pleasing and attractive.

There are certain minimum staffing requirements for adult day health care centers. There has to be an administrator, a registered nurse, a rehabilitative therapist, a program director, an activity coordinator, and a social worker. Make sure the staff is qualified and experienced and able to handle emergencies if necessary without panicking. Ensure that the staff is checked periodically and their performance assessed.

You could advertise your services in the local newspaper and on radio and cable TV. You could leave your fliers in hospitals and pharmacies, making sure that people are aware of your center. If you provide quality service and manage to satisfy the clients, clients will return and you will thereby profit.

There are numerous services and products available that you may make use of to run your new business successfully. If you are dedicated, service-oriented, and really want to give back something to the community, start an adult day health care center.

PostHeaderIcon All about the penis

Most men work on the basis that if something ain’t broke, there’s no need to fix it. As applied to health care, this means you ignore everything unless it refuses to go away. Then, as if a team of wild horses were required to drag you for help, a trip to the doctor or, if unconscious, the more effective ambulance to the hospital is hopefully in time to save you. And talking of breaking things, did you know it was possible to break your penis? It doesn’t sound very likely does it? Although you always hope your erection is as hard as a bone, this is never what you expect. Well, if you push too hard for penetration or generally your sexual interaction is a little too violent, you may find that fine shaft ruptures. Believe us, the pain is off the Richter scale. But here’s the real embarrassment. No matter how embarrassing this is, you have to go to the emergency room. A failure to get effective early treatment can mean you lose erections permanently. That’s right. No more sex! It’s the same if you get an erection that refuses to go away. This embarrassment can also lead to impotence so, if you have an erection for two hours and it’s really starting to hurt, this is another trip to the emergency room.

We now get into a grab-bag of shorter points starting with the issue of size. Men have among the biggest penises in the animal kingdom. Believe it or not, the expression “hung like a gorilla” is an insult among those who know gorillas. To find bigger penises relative to body size, the real prize winner is a lake duck in the Argentine – for those who like the technical stuff, the Latin name is Oxyura Vittata. But, of course, nothing beats the whale. It’s better not to even think about the length. The other factor we men have to contend with is the cold. When the temperature drops, the testicles and penis shrink. So if you think the duck is a threat to your self-esteem, keep warm.

Nicotine and excessive alcohol are bad for your penis, tending to harden the artery supposed to bring in the blood for the erections. And, when those erections come, don’t panic if there’s a slight curve to the left or right. This is perfectly normal and doesn’t interfere with sexual activity in any way. But there is an unfortunate problem called Peyronie’s Disease in which the penis curves up or down. This can prevent all sexual activity which, to put it mildly is frustrating. And finally, there’s the color thing. It’s quite common for the skin of the penis to be a darker shade than the rest of your body.

So putting all these exciting facts together, we have a picture of your penis standing proud. If this is not happening consistently, the best remedy is Levitra. This has the most power at the lowest dosage which ensures a return of the firm hard erections you used to expect. Perhaps Levitra cannot produce anything quite as impressive as a duck, but it will nevertheless impress your partner and lead to enjoyable sex.
